A build's status (Draft, In progress, Partially built, Built, Blocked, Cancelled) is set by Stockroom from what actually happened to inventory. The Workflow card on a build is the part you define: the Stage it is at in your process, its Priority, who it is Assigned to, and the Workstation it is being worked at. Each one saves the moment you change it - a stage move on the floor is one tap.
Set up your stages and workstations
In Settings > Builds, add your Build stages in order - Use suggested stages fills in Queued, Cutting, Assembly, QC, Ready, which you can rename, reorder or trim. New builds start in the first stage. Workstations is the optional list of benches, machines or cells; leave it empty if one place does everything. Removing a stage or workstation moves its builds to "none" and changes nothing else.
On the Builds list
Stage chips above the list show how many open builds sit in each stage - click one to filter.
Filter by stage, priority, assignee or workstation; sort by priority (urgent first) or by stage.
Stage, Priority, Assigned to and Workstation are columns you can show, and they export in the CSV, print on the build sheet and appear in the Builds and Work in progress reports.
Priority
Low, Normal (the default), High or Urgent. It is separate from the due date - a build can be urgent with no date, or dated and low. Urgent builds sort to the top of the list and the Work in progress report.
Assign to a person
Assigned to lists the staff who have opened Stockroom on your store. The build page header shows who it is assigned to, and the Build assigned trigger in Shopify Flow fires when it changes - so an assignment can send a message or an email (see Automate Stockroom with Shopify Flow). Build stage changed fires on stage moves the same way.
Good to know
Stages never touch inventory - a build in "Ready" with nothing recorded still holds its components as planned, not built.
The workflow fields can only change while the build is open; reopen a built build to change them.
The Activity list records every stage move, priority change, assignment and workstation change, with who made it.
