The Inventory page is your window into stock - what is on hand, what is low, what is out, and what is incoming - across every location. It reads from Stockroom's synced copy of your catalog, so it stays fast even with thousands of products.
Inventory has four views: Products - this article - plus Stocktakes and Adjustments for counting and correcting stock, and Suggested levels, the review table for Stockroom's suggested reorder thresholds - see Reorder suggestions and demand planning. The product list
Go to Inventory to see your catalog with live stock. You can:
Search by title, vendor, SKU, or barcode.
Filter by status (All, Active, Draft, Archived) and by stock (All stock, Out of stock, Low stock).
Scope to a single vendor or location.
Set Barcodes to No barcode to see only products missing one, then fill them all in with Generate barcodes - see Print barcode and price labels.
Select products and click Create purchase order to draft POs by supplier. The list shows 50 products a page, so once you have ticked every row on a page, a Select all N matching button appears - it selects every product your current filters match, not just the page in front of you. Handy for ordering a whole vendor: scope to that vendor, select all, create. One order can carry up to 1,000 products; label printing and stock adjustments work on up to 100 at a time, and the buttons tell you which limit applies.
Columns show Variants, Incoming, Available, and Status. The metrics at the top - Active products, Out of stock, Low stock, and Stock value - give you the headline at a glance.
All four numbers count active products only. Archived and draft products are never included - an archived product sitting at zero does not add to Out of stock, and archived stock is not counted in Stock value. Clicking Out of stock or Low stock switches the list to Active and applies that stock filter.
The headline follows the location you pick, and only that. Choose one location and all four numbers are recounted there - how many products that site carries, how many are out or low on its shelves, and what its stock alone is worth - and the list beneath narrows to the products that location actually stocks. Leave the location set to all and you get the whole business. The other filters deliberately leave the headline alone: they narrow the list beneath it, and the numbers are what you filter from.
The product dashboard
Click any product to open its dashboard - everything about that product in one place:
Stock by variant and location, using Shopify's own terms (Available, Committed, Incoming, Unavailable, On hand), plus Days of supply - how long the available stock lasts at the current sales rate.
Cost, price, and margin - with a landed cost and true margin shown when they differ. If your product prices include tax, set Settings > Taxes > Tax rate in selling prices and margins net it out before comparing price to cost - your prices themselves never change.
Open purchase orders, with deep links.
Cost history, recent receipts, and stockout history.
A View in Shopify button to jump to the product in admin.
Good to know
"Low stock" and "Out of stock" use the thresholds you set - or Stockroom's suggestions until you set your own. See Set reorder points and stock levels.
The stock filters are shareable links, so an alert email can take you straight to, say, your out-of-stock products.
Archived products are excluded from every calculation in Stockroom - the Inventory metrics, the Stock on hand and Last counted reports, reorder suggestions, and stock alerts. A stocktake can still include them if you tick Include archived products when you set its scope.
Reads never call Shopify, so the page stays fast for large catalogs. If something looks out of date, run a resync from Settings.
