QuickBooks - Application with Revoked Certificate

Resolved the "Application with Revoked Certificate" message appearing when the Web Connector runs.

Written by the MyWorks Team

Updated at September 29th, 2023

This error is caused by a root certificate behind the signing certificate for the QuickBooks Web Connector being revoked by the certificate authority on Aug 22nd, causing this issue. Read on below for more information, links to resources, and steps to resolve this.

Update (Aug 25, 4:00pm CT)
Intuit has marked this resolved on their status page. They have stated that the core cause of this issue was a certificate used by QuickBooks being revoked by Microsoft. Per their support article, Microsoft reversed this revocation, and no further action is needed at this time. QuickBooks has released updated versions of the web connector, and those should now be used instead of the below.

  • This does resolve the Revoked Certificate error being shown in QuickBooks for users experiencing this issue beginning Aug 22, 2023.
  • Intuit has acknowledged this on their Status Page.
  • If your QuickBooks is on a hosted solution like Right Networks, the above steps will not need to be performed by you. Right Networks has acknowledged this on their Status Page - and has rolled out a fix on their end.

Instructions

  1. Ensure QuickBooks is up to date with any new updates.

  2. Close QuickBooks and the Web Connector.

  3. Download the last installation package of the web connector: v2.3.0.215
    1. Once downloaded, extract the package, and run the installer.

  4. Then, download the updated patched version of the Web Connector from Intuit's site below, to match your version/year of QuickBooks.
    1. QuickBooks 2021 (this is the right version for older QuickBooks versions as well. See more below.)
    2. QuickBooks 2022
    3. QuickBooks 2023

  5. Replace the QBWebConnector.exe in the below folder with the patched exe you downloaded in Step 4:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBWebConnector\

  6. Re-open QuickBooks, and log in as the Company Administrator user, as you may need to re-authorize with your QuickBooks company when the sync runs next.

Re-open QuickBooks and the Web Connector, and the Web Connector should then be able to run successfully.

Tips

  • If the Web Connector does not open for you, you can try a different version link from the above three (2021, 2022 and 2023). There is no harm in trying each version, if needed.

  • QuickBooks may ask you to re-authenticate the Web Connector when it runs the next sync. This simply requires the QuickBooks Administrator user to be logged in when running the web connector for the first time.

  • If your QuickBooks is on a hosted solution like Right Networks, the above steps will not need to be performed by you. Right Networks has acknowledged this on their Status Page - and is working on rolling out a fix shortly.

QuickBooks 2020 and earlier

If you're running QuickBooks 2020 or earlier, you are not being forced to upgrade, and can remain on your same version. You should choose the “QuickBooks 2021” link for an updated version above, but also first follow these steps to re-install the web connector:

  • Close QuickBooks.
  • Download the last installation package of the web connector: v2.3.0.215
  • You're going to run this installer three times:
    1. Open the above installer by right-clicking > choosing Run as Admin. Run it this first time to install this version.
    2. Open the above installer again, and click Continue. Then choose the Remove option. This will uninstall the web connector completely.
    3. Open the above installer once more, and run it normally to do a fresh install.
  • Lastly, follow the steps in the Instructions area above to swap out the patched web connector version, using the 2021 version download from above.
