Pack and finish orders at the bench

Packing one order at a time: verify each item by scan, print the packing slip (with lot numbers if you track them), then fulfill in Stockroom, buy a Shopify Shipping label, mark ready for pickup, or hand the order to Shopify.

The bench is the second half of a pick list (see Picking and packing orders with pick lists): each picked order is packed, checked and finished here.

Pack and finish

In pack mode the bench works one order at a time - choose the order at the top, or scan its barcode on the pick list or packing slip. The lines sit on the left and the finish beside them. Print packing slip prints the slip for the box: your logo, the order number, the items in this box (and what follows if a line was short) and the ship-to address, which Stockroom reads from Shopify when you print and never stores. With verification on, scan each item as it goes in the box; a scan that belongs to another order on the list is called out by name, and the finish button waits until every item is scanned (Mark all packed skips the scan). Pick a finish and one click marks the order packed and finishes it:

  • Fulfill in Stockroom - enter the tracking number, carrier and an optional tracking link, choose whether to notify the customer, and choose Fulfill order. Stockroom creates the fulfillment in Shopify. The first time, Shopify asks you to grant Stockroom permission to fulfill orders.

  • Buy a Shopify Shipping label - pick a saved package or type the outside size and empty weight, check the total weight (prefilled from Shopify's product weights when every item has one), optionally name a carrier and service code, and choose Buy label and fulfill. Shopify picks the rate the way the admin does - the buyer's shipping method first, then your preferred carrier - bills the label to your Shopify account, and the order is fulfilled with the label's tracking. Print label then opens the label as a PDF, or sends it straight to a Zebra when Settings > Labels prints to one. The first time, Shopify asks for permission to buy labels and fulfill orders. Your store must have accepted Shopify Shipping's terms (buy one label in the admin first if it never has), and FedEx labels are not available to apps.

  • Ready for pickup - for pickup orders. Shopify sends its own ready-for-pickup notification; mark it picked up in Shopify or POS as usual.

  • Hand off to Shopify - the order is marked packed here. Buy the label on the order in Shopify; Stockroom sees the shipment once it is fulfilled.

Packing slip options. If lot tracking is on, Print packing slip first opens a small dialog with one box, Include lot numbers. Ticked, each lot-tracked item prints its batch under the line - "Lot A-2408" - so the customer holds the batch number for returns; batch numbers only, never expiry dates or stock figures. The batch is the one the pick list told the picker to take, or the one assigned on the order's Stockroom - Lots block. The box stays ticked until you untick it, and the choice is remembered for your store - the packing slips printed from Shopify's own Print menu on an order follow it too, since that menu has no dialog of its own. With lot tracking off there is nothing to choose and the button prints straight away.

Short-picked units stay open on the order in Shopify, so finishing ships a partial order and the rest can be fulfilled when stock arrives.

Good to know

  • The ship-to address on the packing slip is read from Shopify when you print and never stored.

  • Short-picked units stay open on the order in Shopify, so a finish ships a partial order and the rest can be fulfilled when stock arrives.
