Name your own stock adjustment reasons

Add your team's own words on top of Shopify's eight adjustment reasons, and choose which one each books as.

Shopify gives you eight adjustment reasons, and they do not always match the words your team uses. Stockroom lets you add your own names on top of them, so the picker on an adjustment says what your team would say.

Add a reason

Shopify gives you eight reasons, and they do not always match the words your team uses. In Settings > Inventory & COGS, under Adjustment reasons, press Add a reason, type your own name in Reason - "Expired stock", "Damaged in transit" - and pick which of Shopify's eight it Books as. Your reasons then appear in the picker on an adjustment beside the built-in ones.

Your name is a label on a Shopify reason, not a ninth reason. The adjustment still records and sends the Shopify reason you mapped it to, so Shopify's own history reads the same and an accounting sync that routes adjustments to an account by their reason keeps working exactly as it does now. Two of your reasons can book under the same Shopify one on purpose.

Renaming a reason later does not rewrite adjustments you have already applied - each one keeps the words it was saved with.

Good to know

  • Your reasons are shared by everyone on the store, not per person.

  • The reason on an adjustment is also a filter on the adjustments list and a column in its CSV export, so a month of one reason is one filtered export.
