Some products are taxed at a different rate than your region's standard rate - like reduced VAT on food in France, books in Canada, or zero-rated children's clothing in the UK. Shopify supports this with "tax overrides", which can be configured in your Shopify store's Settings > Tax > [Country] area. MyWorks supports mapping these override rates to the correct corresponding rate in QuickBooks, so each line item in your QuickBooks order uses the correct tax rate.
Before you start
Each tax rate used in Shopify (standard and override) needs a matching tax rate set up in your QuickBooks Online company - in the Sales Tax tab in QuickBooks.
This applies only to non-US QuickBooks companies. US QuickBooks companies using Automated Sales Tax don't use tax rate mapping.
Mapping your override rates
In MyWorks Sync > Map > Tax Rates, the Override Tax Rate Mapping section at the bottom of the page allows you to map each override rate used in your Shopify store. Click Add to create a mapping, and complete the three fields:
Shopify Tax Name: the name of the tax rate, exactly as it appears in your Shopify order (e.g. "VAT"). Open a recent order in Shopify to confirm the exact name shown on the order's tax line.
Tax %: the override tax percentage applied in Shopify (e.g. 2 for a 2% rate).
QuickBooks Tax: the QuickBooks Online tax rate that should be applied when this override rate is present.
Once saved, orders containing an override rate applied to any products will sync into QuickBooks Online with each line item using its correct tax rate. Products taxed at your standard rate continue to follow your regular tax rate mapping.
Tips
If an order's tax syncs at the wrong rate, the most common cause is a name or percentage mismatch - re-check the tax name and rate in the Shopify order against your override mapping.
