Mapping Shopify Customer Segments to a Class or Location for orders synced to QuickBooks Online

Learn how to assign a specific class or department/location to your Shopify orders, based on the customer segment the Shopify customer is in

MyWorks supports the ability to set a different Class or Department in orders based on the Shopify Customer Segment that the order's customer is present in, making it very easy to report on sales by customer “grouping” in QuickBooks!

Setting up

This can be easily enabled in MyWorks Sync > Settings > Order in your Shopify Admin.

  1. Enable Map Shopify Customer Segments to QuickBooks Class or Location.

  2. In the table that appears, two rows are always present: Customer (not in a mapped segment) - every customer who isn't in a segment you've added to the table (this is the default, and it's also what any segment created later in Shopify follows automatically) - and Other (not a customer) - orders with no customer information, such as Shopify POS orders. Choose the QuickBooks class and/or location for each.

  3. To use a different class or location for a Shopify Customer Segment, pick it under Add a Shopify customer segment to map... to give it a row of its own. Only segments you add here affect the sync, and a segment row with neither a class nor a location chosen follows the Customer (not in a mapped segment) row. Click Remove on a row to drop it.

Excluding Customer Segments

Segments you haven't added to the table above are never considered, so segments your team creates for marketing or reporting don't affect this mapping. However, a customer may be in more than one segment you have mapped. MyWorks then follows the segment that was created first in Shopify - which may not be the one you want.

However, this is easy to manage with MyWorks, as below, you can simply select the segments MyWorks shouldn't follow under Disregard these Segments in Settings.

So, for example, if you've mapped segments like “US Customers” or “UK Customers” as well as “Wholesale”, and a wholesale customer is in both, exclude the country segments below so MyWorks follows the Wholesale mapping.
